IFC OFFICER ROLES
PRESIDENT:
Have overall responsibility for the operation of the Interfraternity Council.
Call and preside at all regular and special meetings of the IFC Executive Board and IFC delegate meetings
Call and preside at all meetings of the Fraternity Presidents
Review, approve and sign all IFC checks and contracts involving the council.
Coordinate the fall, spring and all special IFC officer elections.
Report to the Pierce Greek Life Center Advisory Team.
Maintain a complete and up-to-date President's Google Drive.
Train his successor and remain in an advisory capacity for two months after his successor takes office.
The President has the authority to break a tie, but not to create a tie in Council meetings.
If a vote needs to be made during a recess or break, the IFC President has the ability to call for an online or asynchronous vote.
Serve as the IFC Representative at the College Panhellenic Association (CPA), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and United Sorority & Fraternity Council (USFC)'s council delegate meetings. If he is unable to attend any of these meetings, the Executive Vice President is in charge of identifying a suitable IFC Representative to attend each meeting.
EXECUTIVE VICE-PRESIDENT:
Perform the duties of the President if the President is absent or unable to perform his duties.
Responsible for all committees and other duties delegated to him by the President.
Chair the IFC Expansion Committee.
Management and oversight of all of the IFC executive board members excluding the President
VICE PRESIDENT OF JUDICIAL AFFAIRS
Review and/or investigate reports of alleged misconduct of IFC chapters.
Determine when to refer an issue to the Judicial Board or another entity.
Chair the IFC Judicial Board.
Collaborate with Secretary to conduct annual review of the IFC Bylaws and make recommendations to IFC for amendments.
Head of the IFC Judicial Board, responsible for facilitating unbiased decisions and overseeing all judicial proceedings regarding member fraternity conduct.
SECRETARY:
Be responsible for keeping IFC files, rosters and directories up-to-date and accurate.
Take minutes and attendance at all meetings of the IFC meetings.
Type and distribute the minutes for all meetings of the IFC meetings.
E-Mail IFC minutes to Chapter Presidents, Delegates, and Advisors on a weekly basis.
Work with the Treasurer in coordinating travel arrangements for the Executive board and the IFC Advisor when needed.
Carry on all correspondence of the council.
Annually review the Bylaws and make recommendations to IFC for amendments in collaboration with the Vice President of Judicial Affairs.
Maintain, update, and organize the IFC Google Drive
Maintain and update the IFC Calendar with social, philanthropy, greek, and school events.
Observe parliamentary procedure during Council meetings.
Coordinate, draft, and distribute bi-monthly newsletters sent out to the entire IFC Community which highlight operations, upcoming events, and anything else relevant to that time period (i.e. recruitment, philanthropy, mental health, relevant campus events, etc.
VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE
Be responsible for the general supervision of the finances of the San Diego State University IFC.
Be responsible, along with the President and IFC Advisor, for the presentation of the general IFC account budgets for the following semester by the twelfth week of the current semester. One (1) week after the budget has been approved by the IFC chapter delegates, the Vice President of Finance is responsible for providing a copy of the budget to each IFC member fraternity.
Receive all payments due to IFC, including recruitment fees and dues, and issue receipts accordingly.
Be responsible for the prompt payment of all bills due by IFC.
Sign all IFC account checks and be responsible for the counter-signatures.
At the close of his term in office, submit an audit report to IFC.
Maintain complete and up-to-date financial records as part of his Treasurer’s file.
VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAMMING
Assist all other executive officers with any events they plan or coordinate.
Coordinate with the Greek Life Activities Board (GLAB) in the execution of Greek Week Activities, as well as be a resource and liaison for all other GLAB events.
Assist the secretary in organizing and updating the IFC Calendar.
Create an weekly activities calendar to relay Greek, school, and community events to all IFC chapters.
In cooperation with the CPA, USFC, and NPHC activity directors, execute at least one Greek- wide community service event per semester to promote Greek unity as well as community involvement.
Assist the Vice President of Recruitment and Retention with the semesterly or yearly retention plan and help coordinate those events
Work with chapters to identify opportunities for joint philanthropy events that encourage collaboration and enhance Greek Life's impact on the community. Facilitate partnerships with local charities and campus organizations to expand the scope of IFC philanthropy efforts.
Coordinate and assist, if needed, the Vice President of Leadership Development with the Jr. IFC Program.
Develop relationships with local businesses, campus offices, and community organizations to secure sponsorships, guest speakers, and resources for IFC events.
VICE PRESIDENT OF RECRUITMENT & RETENTION
Plan, coordinate, and execute all recruitment activities to be conducted by IFC.
Meet with all chapter recruitment chairmen and presidents at the very beginning of the semester to review all important upcoming recruitment information for that semester.
Organize and submit, for approval to the Council, a master plan (including dates, internal & external deadlines, and any other applicable information) and budget for the IFC Recruitment Program.
Conduct and regulate all recruitment activities and perform all other duties pertaining to recruitment.
Ensure a Recruitment Kickoff Event is held to introduce and overview the Formal Recruitment Process of that semester for interested potential members
Coordinate with the Pierce Greek Life Center to determine when Recruitment Week will occur no later than the second to last delegate meeting of each semester for the next semester.
All recruitment conduct, processes, and procedures are outlined in the Official SDSU IFC Recruitment Guide Book . This guidebook shall serve as the highest authority and be adhered to in all recruitment-related matters as stipulated in these bylaws. The Vice President of Recruitment and Retention is responsible for reviewing and updating this live document before the conclusion of each semester to ensure its accuracy and preparedness for the upcoming semester.
Will work with the Vice President of Programming and any other executive board members to coordinate a Retention Plan once per semester. Also work with individual chapters to support and chapter New Member Educators to ensure the retention of both new members and active members in chapters.
Collaborate with the Pierce Greek Life Center to collect and analyze recruitment and retention data, including application trends, acceptance rates, and chapter-specific performance. Present a semesterly recruitment and retention report to the IFC Executive Board and Council for review and improvement planning.
Work with the IFC Public Relations Chair or equivalent officer to create and execute a comprehensive marketing campaign for recruitment, including social media, campus events, and promotional materials. Highlight the benefits of fraternity membership and showcase individual chapters in alignment with NIC branding recommendations.
Develop initiatives to identify and engage potential new members early in their campus experience, including pre-recruitment events and collaborations with other campus organizations. Maintain a PNM database to ensure timely communication and follow-up during recruitment cycles.
Encourage and assist chapters in adopting a year-round recruitment strategy, as recommended by the NIC, to engage potential members outside of formal recruitment periods. Provide resources to chapters for implementing continuous recruitment processes and tracking progress.
VICE PRESIDENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS & DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
Work with the VP of Programming Activities Director and Recruitment Director in publicizing IFC sponsored events.
Disseminate information about IFC and chapter community service efforts to local and campus media.
Organize and strive to improve the overall image of fraternity life at SDSU by working with other public relations avenues and perform all other duties usually pertaining to this office.
Work with the Executive Committee to utilize social media to spread relevant information about IFC High-Risk Weekends, security measures, and any other Health and Safety Messaging
Maintain and update the IFC website.
Act as an advocate for DEI within the IFC by providing resources, materials, and support to member fraternities to promote inclusivity in their own communications and events.
Collaborate with the other executive members to ensure that all IFC events, communications, and promotional materials reflect the council's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Ensure that all messaging and outreach efforts are accessible and inclusive, representing the values and identities of all member chapters.
VICE PRESIDENT OF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT:
Prepare monthly report on the activities of Associated Students and the opportunities provided by Career Services and/or other various leadership development opportunities at San Diego State University and/or within the San Diego community
Educate and advocate for IFC men to learn and increase their involvement in on-campus organizations that can contribute to their leadership development.
The Vice President of Leadership Development shall create a program with a curriculum that educates IFC men of the organizations outside of IFC and the leadership positions available within those organizations as well as educating members on the resources available on campus.
VICE PRESIDENT SCHOLARSHIP:
Explore new avenues and incentives to amplify academic performance throughout the fraternity system, and to recognize fraternities and fraternity members who have made academic accomplishments.
Act as the liaison to the Order of Omega.
Create scholarship awards for the IFC end-of-the-year banquet.
Support fraternities in the completion of FSL Foundations
Hand out the IFC Academic Honor Roll Plaque for member fraternities that achieve honor roll status.
VICE PRESIDENT OF HEALTH & WELLNESS:
Vice President of Health & Wellness will coordinate with University Officials and Student Officials to ensure the highest degree of citizenship within our IFC community at San Diego State University.
Promote or initiate conversation regarding inclusivity, “Greek rank” also known as the “hierarchy system,” and propose solutions to help combat these issues.
To oversee or aid in the presentation of programs that involve, but are not limited to, the prevention of sexual violence, substance abuse, and education about bystander intervention.
To provide or promote necessary resources for the safety of IFC’s members.
Coordinate with the Pierce Greek Life Center, Counseling and Psychological services, Office of Restorative Practices, FratMANers, SISSTER, and Well-being & Health & Promotion Department to provide outlets for managing stress and addressing: sexual violence, substance abuse, and suicide prevention. The ultimate goal is to augment the image of positivity and well-being within the community.
Create sports awards for the end of the year banquets.
Keep track of all San Diego State University sports-related news and keep the council updated.
Support IFC, Panhellenic Council (CPA), and other Greek organizations with their health and wellness programming and operational needs.
Provide regular and direct support to the VICE PRESIDENT OF RISK MANAGEMENT, most specifically during high-risk weekends and IFC community events.
VICE PRESIDENT OF RISK MANAGEMENT
Provide critical support to the Pierce Greek Life Center in regard to risk management programming, IFC leadership development, health and safety initiatives, and related student engagement activities.
Coordinate arrangements for intra-chapter social monitoring for off-campus events with alcohol according to CSU Policy ("Addendum B: Recognized Student Organization Events Off-Campus Event Registration Policy" page 94).
Maintain a complete and up-to-date filing system within the Risk Management Google email drive. Also, maintain a contact sheet for all IFC and CPA Risk Managers.
Plan and coordinate semesterly risk management speakers and/or CPR certification event with representation from each chapter within IFC.
Work closely with Vice President of Judicial Affairs in preventing risk for IFC and its fraternities.
Assist with the planning of Sexual Violence Prevention and Awareness programming in conjunction with FratMANers (Fraternity Men Against Negative Environments and Rape Situations) each semester.
Conduct meetings with a committee of risk managers that is representative of all IFC Fraternities.
Review risk management plans and collaborate with chapter leadership to provide feedback, ensuring that they align with university policies, safety standards, and best practices for fraternity and sorority life.
Conduct walk-arounds to all IFC fraternity houses to uphold stipulations during high-risk weekends as identified by the IFC board and University Officials.
VICE PRESIDENT OF SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND BROTHERHOOD
Plan and oversee all IFC-sponsored social and brotherhood activities, including retreats and bonding events, at the IFC level.
Coordinate logistics for events, including venue bookings, transportation, catering, and scheduling.
Ensure all events align with IFC goals and policies.
Work closely with the VP of Risk Management to ensure all events adhere to risk management policies and procedures.
Collaborate with the VP of Programming to maintain a cohesive IFC event calendar and prevent scheduling conflicts.
Partner with the Secretary to ensure accurate documentation and communication of event details.
Develop and manage the budget for IFC-sponsored social and brotherhood events.
Ensure financial responsibility and provide regular budget updates to the IFC Treasurer and Executive Board.
Report event plans, outcomes, and feedback to the IFC Executive Board.
Present relevant updates and announcements regarding social and brotherhood events to the General Council when necessary.
Gather feedback from IFC members and chapters following events to evaluate their success and identify areas for improvement.
Use feedback to enhance future programming and strengthen IFC-wide engagement.
